Europe under Pressure: The growing Impact of Drought

Episode description

Drought is no longer a regional problem; it has become a challenge for all of Europe. A new analysis by CORRECTIV.Europe reveals for the first time just how widespread drought has become across the continent: since 2012, two thirds of all districts and cities in the European Economic Area, as well as in the United Kingdom, North Macedonia, Albania and Serbia, have experienced severe drought years.

The consequences are already being felt today. Agricultural businesses are struggling with crop failures, declining yields and rising costs. For farms such as Rieckens Landmilch in Germany, economic survival is increasingly at stake – and they are far from alone in facing these challenges.

In this week’s lensEU podcast, we discuss the causes and consequences of drought in Europe, with a particular focus on Germany, Poland and Austria.
